Do people blog anymore?

I am feeling the urge to blog again... I think I just like the idea of putting my thoughts and my small accomplishments out there in some way. And, knowing hardly any one will see them is kind of freeing. I miss having someone to share all the tiny things about my life with who cares. I used to think I had a friend that did, but I found out recently I was wrong! So... I won't burden anyone else again with it all. I'll just put it all here and have fun, and then walk away and not worry.

I know that, for me, I love hearing about all the minutia of the lives of folk... am I a freak? Who knows... probably.

Anyway... perhaps I'll try this blogging thing again.

And, since this is a knitting blog... how about I start with knitting?



Well, crocheting. My kid, so cutely pictured in earlier posts, is now 14 years old. Crazy, right? They use they/them pronouns now, and started High School last Monday. This summer, they did a wonderful full-immersion Hogwarts camp for 2 weeks. It was their 2nd year, and it was as wonderful fun as it was last year. I got to guest-teach a class (cosplaying Molly Weasley in the jacket I crocheted for Hallowe'en ... many years ago, judging by the size of the kid.)  It was a Care of Household Magical Creatures, and I had a great time researching creatures that might be good around the home. One of them was Puffskeins -- because they can be cuddled hard and keep babies happy and entertained... and they eat pests like ants and spiders.

My intention was to make 9 of them - so each kid in my class could have one. But, as I was performing in Guys and Dolls at the time - I ran out of time. So, I made 4 - one for each Hogwarts House, for the kids to take back to their houses as a House-pet. The kids LOVED them, which was very gratifying. I had been making them assembly-line style, so after the class was over I just made 3 more. One, my kid and I kept as a souvenir. And the other 2 I gave to my dressing-room mates at Guys & Dolls, since they had been cooing over them while I made them backstage. 

Well, more later. Maybe. We'll see. Bedtime now.

First off -- all of my yarn has been baked and sealed into its own private little zip-lock freezer bag. It took two and a half days. I shudder to see my gas bill for this month. But I saw NO more evidence of moth infestation in anything and it should all be well protected now. Zowie, what a nightmare. On to more fun things! I got my Interweave Knits Holiday issue at the bookstore last week and fell in love with the Huckleberry Scarf. I fell more in love when I realized that I needed 2 skeins of worsted weight Alpaca and that I actually HAD that in my stash -- a gift from juliepersons . So I happily cast on and knit on it. 2 days later -- ta da! I had to go up a needle size to get gauge -- but if I could do it over again, I would knit with the smaller needles and be slightly under gauge. The problem is that the weight of the heavier ends with the bobbles stretch things out quite a bit - much more so than your gauge swatch will do! FO - Wavy Scarf & Elizabeth I!!

First of all... here she is!! I'm so very proud of her. My first Alice Starmore . My first adult size sweater, really. (I did make Klaralund and I guess that counts, but it had no shaping and was on size 8 needles. This has lots of shaping and was on size 3 needles.) It took me almost (but NOT quite,) a year. Mostly because I kept putting her aside. I had gauge issues: I got stitch gauge perfectly but my row gauge was way too big. So I subtracted as many rows as I could in the body and hoped for the best. Turns out, it was okay! It fits me really well and I love it! I've even worn it once already! Introducing... Elizabeth I Pattern: Elizabeth I from the book Tudor Roses by Alice Starmore Yarn: 100% merino, recycled from a Banana Republic ribbed pullover. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

First, the good!! Recognize that amazing gal in the middle? We went to the Maker Faire on Saturday. We went last year and LOVED it and we had always planned to attend this year as well. Come to find out that the Yarn Harlot was appearing there in the morning! It seems to have been a last-minute addition because the Harlot did not mention that she was attending in her blog until a few scant days before the event. And traffic getting into the event was AWFUL. Since she spoke at 11AM and the event opened at 10AM, her talk was pretty poorly attended, IMO, for a Harlot Event. We planned to get there in plenty of time and I ended up missing 1/2 of her talk. But what I heard was great!! She came back to the craft area to knit with people and talk, so I got her to sign my book. And I got to ask her a question that resulted in her giving a detailed explanation of how she knits, which was fascinating.
